Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find what you're looking for? Our team is happy to answer any specific immigration questions you have.

Ask Us Directly
  • What is the EU Blue Card and who qualifies?

The EU Blue Card is a work and residence permit designed for non-EU nationals with a recognised university degree and a job offer in an EU member state meeting the minimum salary threshold (currently €45,300 gross per year in Germany, or €41,041.80 for shortage occupations). It grants the right to live and work in Germany for up to four years and can serve as a pathway to permanent residence after just 21 months (with B1 German language skills).

  • How long does a family reunification application take?

Processing times vary depending on the German consulate in your country and the completeness of your application. In most cases, processing takes between 3 and 6 months. The spouse of an EU Blue Card holder is typically entitled to a residence permit for employment without restrictions — our team can expedite the preparation of your application to minimize waiting times.

  • Can I apply for German citizenship if I hold dual nationality?

Germany's revised Nationality Act (Staatsangehörigkeitsgesetz), effective since June 2024, now generally permits dual and multiple citizenship. If you have held a lawful permanent residence permit for at least five years, have not been convicted of serious offences, are financially self-supporting, and have a good command of German (B1 minimum), you may be eligible for naturalisation while retaining your existing citizenship.

  • What documents are required for a work permit application?

The standard documents include: valid passport, biometric photo, completed application form, employment contract or binding job offer, proof of professional qualifications (academic degrees and translations), proof of health insurance, and proof of accommodation in Germany. Some permit categories require additional documentation such as salary statements, language certificates or employer declarations. We provide you with a customised checklist for your specific case.

  • Do you provide assistance with asylum procedures?

Yes. Our firm advises and represents clients in asylum procedures before the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and in subsequent administrative court proceedings. We provide legal counsel on all stages of the asylum process — from the initial filing to appeals and judicial review. Given the complexity and sensitivity of asylum matters, we strongly recommend seeking legal advice as early as possible in the process.
